Famitsu Online Interview & print review

February 2, 2017

We were lucky enough to be interviewed by Japan’s premier online gaming magazine, Famitsu online, this time for the Japanese release of our game Pirate Pop Plus! Or rather, “Kaizoku Pop”!

The interview was organised by our great friends at Rainy Frog, the Japanese publisher for Pirate Pop. We got to demo the game on Wii U while they took shots. (photos that is!)

Later came the interview proper, and we all laughed merrily while Hawken kept turning to what he thought was his translator who later turned out to not be his translator but a journalist. Oh how we laughed at Hawken’s strange brand of Japanese. Alas I while I tirelessly try to self-deprecate, the truth is we had a lot of fun.

At the end of the interview, Famitsu let us know that they will be reviewing the game in the print version of Famitsu the following week!

The following print review came out on the same day as the Zelda Breath of Wild announcement, so it was actually hard to get our hands on a copy.
Our review went well – they “got it” as a retro game, their main feedback was that they wanted more.

BitSummit 4th

July 10, 2016

This year we showed Pirate Pop Plus.

What a crazy year this one was! The venue was slightly smaller than usual meaning all the exhibitors were packed in, and attendees had to jostle with exhibitors in a large writhing mass! Looking back it was fun, however at the time it was pure pandemonium.

Compounded by the fact that we only had half a table to show our game, and the game was drawing a large crowd, it was a trying few days that put our endurance to the test!

dadako was luckily situated next to Nintendo, the platform on which the game we were showing was to come out on in just a few short months after BitSummit. By visitors and press the title gladly absorbed a bit of that luck.

There was a feeling in the air that this BitSummit was the deal sealer, that the event now has a strong enough footing to carry on in to the distant future as it’s own thing.

(In the selfie above, an original staff member of “pomping world” – which Pirate Pop Plus was inspired by – came to play, he was the first player of the event!)

BitSummit 2015 (Bitsummit 3)

July 11, 2015

This year we took Pixel Pirate for a spin.

2015 was the year that dadako really made a push to be on console, and our title in development was snowballing to a seemingly unstoppable pace, we were on a roll!

This was the second time we could see and interact with visitors playing our game, mighty interesting stuff.

BitSummit treated all the exhibitors well, making us feel like indie developer royalty. Heady days.
